DVF at the LACMA

I was excited to pay tribute to the one and only, inspiring and ever-so-talented Diane Von Furstenberg by visiting the Journey of a Dress exhibit at the LACMA this past week. The showcase celebrates the 40th Anniversary of the dress that started it all - the wrap dress!!! Diane designed this signature piece at the young age of 23 and it was featured in WWD. She says it transformed her life — paying her bills, her kids’ college fees and affording her a lifetime of freedom. As you enter you view an extensive installation of archived photos dating from the 70's to present day - fashion campaigns, editorials, and famed stars all wearing the iconic dress. The gallery displays some never before seen photos and dedicated portraits by artists and photographers such as: Andy Warhol, Chuck Close and Annie Liebowitz, surrounding you in a world of Diane. I really enjoyed one incredible piece - a digitized statue of Diane with over 20 iconic woman literally flying out of her mouth! The main room is decorated with sweeping prints from ceiling to floor creating another story. Mannequins line up forming a pyramid shape dressed in 4 decades of DVF designs from the popular animal prints, to the geometric patterns and the classics. I have continued to marvel at Diane Von Furstenberg's work over the years - she really knows how to design for a woman's body and creates true lady-like silhouettes. My absolute must-haves are her silk blouses that are feminine, sexy and sometimes with just enough sheer. The display will be up until April 1st, so if you are a lover of art and fashion like myself this is something you won't want to miss!

The Dali Museum, FLORIDA

I'm loving the artistic additions lately in my inspirations for the blog. Travel and design go hand in hand and since the master artists of history really never die, I stumbled upon the massively inspiring Salvador Dali Museum in Florida. Just look at the exterior! One can only imagine the inside of this beauty—it literally feels like it materialized from the master's mind, doesn't it? As the expansion of the original Dali Museum built in 1982, the architecture is truly inspired by Dali's surrealism. Simply an admirable piece that everyone should enjoy and inspire upon, so please do as you take my photo tour!
