As I gear up for Art Basel Miami in just a few weeks, my artist crush this Monday is the mural on this inspiring piece of architecture by Dutch architects MVRDV, the Markthal Rotterdam, located in the Netherlands! This uniquely designed and enclosed mixed use property features a colorful mural by artists Arno Coenen and Iris Roskam, which occupies over 36,000 square feet and wraps itself around the interior ceiling of the arched structure. It's simply striking! The vibrant paintings of fresh market produce, flowers and even insects, are larger than life as busy shoppers graze through the market while residents truly have a room with a view! XO

Friday Favorite: Sweet Paintings
By:

on 9/12/2014
Today's #FridayFavorite is the ultimate treat! Artist Othman Toma does something we all wish our kids could! Toma paints with what looks like watercolors, yet it's actually the melting of sweets such as chocolate ice cream bars & an array of colorful popsicles! Vibrant images burst off the page from splatters of uneaten delights! YUMMY! The images below give you a taste of Toma's creative process as he photographs the final painting alongside it's tasty medium. I think I'll try this with the kiddos at home!

Ladies and Gents, stop what you're doing on this manic Monday and feast your eyes on these astonishing works of art by San Francisco based Anna Halldin Maule! Mentored by her late grandfather, artist Bror Halldin, it is no wonder Anna's precision and detailed approach combined with fashion, glamour and photography gives us this stunning collection and exhibit of imagery. Anna shoots the models live and recreates the images from brush strokes of oil paint. The video is mind blowing. I hope my Monday inspiration will carry you through the week!

Artist Crush: Emma Hack

on 4/28/2014
My Monday crush is artist Emma Hack from down under. Inspired by model Verushka in the 60's and 70's, Emma became a visual artist and began to master the notion of camoflauge using body paint, people, animals, and photography! She soon found the perfect inspiration and medium for her work and gained full access to the Florence Broadhurst archives of some 530 designs which birthed the Wallpaper Collection of images that span from 2005 to her recently launched collection in 2010. It was during this time that Emma began exhibiting her limited edition photographic images. Her first ever wallpaper camouflage took 19 hours straight to paint with more recent works taking anywhere from 8-15 hours, depending on the complexity of the design. You may also recognize her work from the 2012 hit song "Somebody That I Used to Know", where she painted singers Gotye 's music video. Her work is intriguing to say the least. It is an exhausting process for artist and subject alike; however the results are nothing short of spectacular. Enjoy your day!!!!
