Salvation Mountain: A Message of Love!

Happy Monday! As I'm en route back from NYC kids fashion week, A special treat for you all! Today on the blog our very own social media director, Dara, shares her recent discovery and experience at Salvation Mountain, in California. It is Pretty Spectacular to say the least!

Hello, KMP fans! It's a pleasure to share with you all this amazing place, which I discovered a few weekends ago as I made my way to Palm Springs for a celebratory weekend. To my ultimate surprise and beyond expectation, we came upon Salvation Mountain! Just East of the Salton Sea in a small town called Niland, lies one man's message of LOVE. I first discovered Salvation Mountain back in 2007 after seeing the film "Into The Wild". This colorful destination peaked my interest and found a home on my bucket list. The unique art installation, located in the Colorado Desert and built solely by Leonard Knight, is 50 feet high and is made completely of adobe clay, hay bails, and TONS of colorful barrels of donated paint. To think that one man did this all by himself is nothing short of remarkable. As you follow the "Yellow Brick Road" to the very top, along the way you explore it's vibrant mazes and messages. There's lots to discover here! From painted flowers, trees, waterfalls, and bluebirds, it seems Love IS all you need and can be found everywhere at Salvation Mountain! KM will surely find a way to capture this amazing place and shoot some amazing artists here, I just know it! Here's to the unknown, travel and wanderlust!! Magic is around the corner...XX DARA.

Artist Crush: Emma Hack

My Monday crush is artist Emma Hack from down under. Inspired by model Verushka in the 60's and 70's, Emma became a visual artist and began to master the notion of camoflauge using body paint, people, animals, and photography! She soon found the perfect inspiration and medium for her work and gained  full access to the Florence Broadhurst archives of some 530 designs which birthed the Wallpaper Collection of images that span from 2005 to her recently launched collection in 2010. It was during this time that Emma began exhibiting her limited edition photographic images. Her first ever wallpaper camouflage took 19 hours straight to paint with more recent works taking anywhere from 8-15 hours, depending on the complexity of the design. You may also recognize her work from the 2012 hit song  "Somebody That I Used to Know", where she painted singers Gotye 's music video. Her work is intriguing to say the least. It is an exhausting process for artist and subject alike; however the results are nothing short of spectacular. Enjoy your day!!!!

Friday Favorite: Takashi Murakami Pop Art Pieces

Here's a groovy vibe to set off your Friday! Lets celebrate genius artist, Takashi Murakami as he unveils a noteworthy series of pop art portraits. Originally shocking us with his Louis Vuitton collab back in 2002 giving fashionistas a retro spin that we just loved, he now takes us a step further entering the Hollywood scene with these vibrant masterpieces! A true heir to Warhol, the candy-like colors and digital overlays are remarkable giving the celebrities a commercialized, cartoon-like animate. I don't know if Mr. Takashi will exceed the great Warhol, but by the looks of it I'm loving where this is going, and can't wait to see what he comes up with next!

Friday Favorite: Fashion Logos by Mike Frederiqo

KMP kicked off the week shooting for a new client, creative direction is turned on, the new year is in full swing and we're ready for action. When you do what you love, life is truly an adventure each day and I feel blessed! I am obsessed with 2014!!! My Friday Favorite is illustrator Mike Frederiqo. Look at this amazing art.... I mean, Wow! How cool are these recreations of logos from our favorite fashion brands? It always excites me when fashion meets art. Frederiqo really gives these iconic marks an oomph of personality, morphing the popular designers into their trademarks. Check out Ralph Lauren riding his little pony, Marc Jacobs with a little sass and Louis Vuitton is spot on!

Matej Kren
The power of words is a beauty of its own, books allow our imagination run wild and create an adventure from our own personal perspective. These artists take the phrase "bringing a story to life" to a whole new level. Dwelling in a library in Prague, from museums in Britain, Montreal to Minneapolis these sculptures are inspiring and brilliant! In the new year, challenge yourself to explore a new genre or revisit that favorite page turner. Happy Hump Day!
