Travel Tuesday: Art Basel Miami 2013

This past week I felt like a true jet setter or rather like a famed artist that emerged from nowhere as I literally dove head first into the insanity that is ArtBasel. I highly recommend that you heighten your social calendar next year and take a trip South to escape to now what is my favorite time in Miami. I was blown away with the rigorous planning one must procure in advance in order to gracefully make way during Basel. It’s not just the art...it’s the events, galas, and breezy tropical nights that lure the sophisticated and uber good looking crowd to Basel.

A VIP pass will get you up close and personal with the planet’s top galleries, notable fairs, aspiring talents and most importantly, influential curators from around the world to help distill your artistic eye. With over 260 galleries from 29 countries the city beats with an undeniable pulse showcasing modern and contemporary works from the 20th and 21st century. It's bound to overwhelm you with inspiration! I was so impressed with the opening of the much anticipated Perez Art Museum Miami (PAMM). It is a work of art itself architecturally, I mean amazing with an outdoor hanging garden installation beyond! Art Basel was impressive, Art Miami in the design district...my favorite, and smaller fairs like Untitled, Scope and Pulse in their self-contained pop up tents on the white coral beaches were equally inviting.

Friday Favorite: Carlos Betancourt

It's Friday in Miami and Art Basel is in full swing! Last night, my dear friend Carlos Betancourt unveiled his newest installation at Seasalt, the new hipster spot on North River Drive. Carlos' art has been featured in many solo exhibits and museums around the globe including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. He has been asked to create artwork for art in public places programs and has achieved numerous awards and grants for his remarkable talent. He is a co-founder for the creative studio, 801 Projects, providing a space in Miami for visual artists. Carlos is making a great impact in the art world and is one true talent to keep an eye out for.  If you like art, photography, and everything in between,  you don't want to miss Art Basel Miami. Currently, you can find his work displayed at the new PAMM downtown and available through many gallery representations.
